In the novel, The Fellowship of the Ring, a hobbit that goes by the name of Frodo Baggins does just that. He leaves his homeland to protect his people from any harm that may come their way. He repeatedly tried to leave his friends behind, not because he doesn't like them, but because he doesn't want them to indulge in this threat. Fordo leaves his home because if he stayed his motherland would have been shattered by this evil chasing him.
The fellowship of the ring opens with Bilbo celebrating his 111 birthday. His heir Frodo receives the one ring from Bilbo before he leaves foe good. Bilbo doesn't give away the ring without some unwillingness to Gandalf the grey, a great wizard. This ring possesses great powers and sauron's power is increasing. Therefore, he is looking for this One ring to make his supremacy ultimate and gain control over the entire world. Frodo
leaves the shire with Merry, Pippin, and Sam Gamgee whom ultimately end up joining him on his quest. Gandalf tells Frodo how they know this ring is in the Shire and are looking for it. He is advised by Gandalf to leave the shire before any harm might come to these hobbits.
Nine ring wraiths that take the form as Black Riders start to look for Frodo in the shire and have word he is on the road out. Before they leave out to the Old Forest, Frodo tires to elude his friends Merry and Pippin from coming along on the trip. But, they already know the whole account and the importance of the ring. As much as he tries to get them to not come, they refuse and say the will follow him no matter what. Frodo not approvingly sees Merry and Pippin join the quest of eluding danger from the whole
world.
After they get through the Old Forest and make their way past Rivendell. A fellowship is made of Sam, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, Aragorn, a dwarf named Gimli, an Elf named Legolas, and a man named Boromir. They attempt to travel through Moria; Gandalf is thrown into the chasm of Khazad-dum by the Balrog. The group is now lead by Aragorn and they come Lorien. Where Frodo offers the wise old woman the ring but she refuses saying she will become corrupt. The group now must decide whether to go to Mordor or toward Minas Tirith where there is safety. Boromir is overcome by the ring and tries to take it form Frodo. It is then that fordo realizes that he must leave to Mordor by himself without risking his friends and getting them corrupted with the ring. However, Sam still finds away to find him and the two set off to Mordor.
By, attempting to leave his friends behind when he finds they are in harm, if they continue the journey with him. So he secretly leaves to Mordor when the group is unaware. He shows that he is a hero by doing so. When he leaves the Shire without telling anyone really why, he is saving them from danger even though he might not be aware of how much trouble he is keeping from them. For if he stayed his whole race and land would have been totally ruined by this evil. Even as he tries to escape from his friends he is being a hero. Not only would no harm come to them but they could help lose his tail. His friends helped keep him from danger and he knows he has a better chance of survival with more friends. He is still trying to risk his life for his friends and his people, this is why he is a true hero in all senses.
