Private Education Television in Malaysia

Summary:   Evaluates the report under Star Education, "Government should stop the private ETV programmes",(The Star, October 7). Debates the suggestion of ending private education television in Malaysia. Discusses how schools currently utilize the programming.

I refer to the report under Star Education, "Government should stop the private ETV programmes",(The Star, October 7), stating that the Government should stop the private Education Television (ETV) programmes since it was found that 91.2% of the 381 schools were not utilizing the facility .

I strongly support this suggestion to stop the private ETV programmes. I am sure that Malaysians from all walks of life would strongly agree on this.

In my opinion, the Private ETV programmes which had pursue along about four years ago was only going to make private companies richer because RM20milion has been paid out to private company for the ETV programme. Nevertheless, it was sadly to notice that the objective pf this project has not been met because of the effectiveness of the programme . That is meant that millions of ringgit which could put to better use has gone down the drain. Government, teachers, parents, as well as children had gained nothing after all.

Instead, I suggest that the money should save for better use. First of all, the money saved should be diverted to provide children with useful tools that can enhance overall education. By this way, children especially who from poor family who cannot afford the useful tools will also get the chance having the useful tools to make them more convenient in their studies.

Preferably, the Government should be supposed to increase the allowance for those teachers who are well trained and capable pf teaching. It can stimulate them to be more responsible and interesting with their job as a person who educated our country's children. At the same time, children will also obtain benefits since they have some responsible, kind, and quality teachers to teach them.

In addition, the money should be also spending for more outdoor education, which uses experiences outside the classroom. It is aimed to develop the student as a whole person. They will experiences the knowledge that the never been taught inside the classroom.

Furthermore, some of the money could also go into building better sport facilities in school to encourage children to be more active in co curriculum activities. Indirectly, it also can help our country to provide more sportsman and sportswoman in the future.

Food programme for poor students can also be funded. This food programme can help some poor students to overcome their financial problems.

In conclusion, obviously, there are a lots of benefits if the Government stop the ETV programme which shown effectiveness.
