Household Social Structure in the Edwardian Era

Summary:   Social strata of all the classes in Edwardian times as shown in the structure of upper-class homes of the period.


In the 1900's an Edwardian lifestyle would have been hard for you if you were some sort of servant. You were either at the top of the league or at the bottom. The person in the middle was the Butler.

All together you would have had about 12 staff if you were the Masters of the house. There would have been the Butler (he was in charge of all the other staff); there was the First footman and the Second footman. The First footman would have been looking after the Sir and madam of the house. The Second footman would have looked after the welfare of the son or daughter of their master. The footmen were paid by their height so if they were really tall they would have earned good wages. There.....
