In Charles Dickens's novel The Tale of Two Cities it is debated whether Charles Darnay or Sydney Carlton is more heroic. A heroic figure in any novel is a character that demonstrates determination, leadership, kindness, charity, and a great lack of selfishness. Charles Darnay and Sydney Carlton, bear many similarities; such as their looks, but they also have many differences; such as their levels of confidence. Charles Darnay and Sydney Carlton distinguish themselves in The Tale of Two Cities as heroic figures.

Charles Darnay and Sydney Carlton have varying attitudes concerning each other and have different backgrounds. Carlton is British whereas Darnay is of the French decent, though both live in SoHo, England.
