Parenting in the 21st Century
Summary: From a technical perspective, parenting means nothing more than procreating. Howeve by human standards, a parent must develop their offspring intellectually, emotionally and socially. It does not take much to physically parent a child, but it takes compassion, dedication and love to be a mommy and daddy.
A parent, by definition according to Webster's Dictionary, 1998, is, "An organism that produces or generates offspring." Nothing more; merely something that gives birth, or has the ability to impregnate. The problem is that many people live by this. They believe that giving birth makes them a parent. Being a parent is so much more than that. Being a parent means being there for your children for their first recital, giving them advice when it comes to their first
crush, being their eyes, their ears, their art. A parent needs to be there for their child, and
above all, a parent has to love their child with everything inside of them (Parenting Styles).
Society is constantly changing, as are the roles of parents in a child's life. Parents today have a hard time parenting their children intellectually, emotionally and socially.
