- Ramses had a co-regent rule with his father Seti I for a number of years before his own ascension to the throne. Though he was the son of Queen Tuya, a woman of non-royal blood, Ramses not only claims, but emphasises the fact that he was chosen by his father at a very young age to inherit the throne. However, this may have been owing to the premature death of his older half-brother, who would have most certainly, as tradition, inherited the throne over Ramses. Moreover, Ramses was the son of Seti's second wife, Queen Tuya, which therefore would have ensured him to be second in line.
