One theme that I thought was important in the book "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" is Education is the key to success. In this book, the Nolan family was very poor, Mary Rommely was determined for her children and grandchildren to have a better life than she did even if it meant leaving her homeland and moving to a completely different world and starting from scratch. She did everything in her power to make it work, she was even willing to sacrifice the few cents that she was earning to put in the bank that she made, so that hopefully one day she would have saved up enough money to buy a small piece of land, so that they could start a new life. Unfortunately, Mary Roomely wasn't successful in accomplishing her goals, but she got through to her daughter and Katie followed in her mother's footsteps. Katie finally understood how important education was after having children of her own. All she ever wanted was for her children to live a better life than she and her mother did. No matter what the situation was Katie made sure that her children attended school, even if it meant not having food on the table. Katie did not want her children to be low workers like they are and suffer through all the pain. I believe that education is important because without education you can't get anywhere in life. Without education you cannot make money to support yourself or your family. Although money may not be the most important thing in the world, but money is something you need to get through in life.
