American History X

Summary: Examines the movie American History X. Summarizes the plot of the film. Argues that the racism depicted in the film is justified.
In the movie American History X, Derek Vinyard played by Edward Norton, is a young charismatic leader of a group of frustrated white supremacist. Throughout the movie Derek describes the black race as being extremely harmful, however he seems to justify his beliefs. Derek's observations and theories become remarkably thought provoking to create the central theme of the movie. Although he decides to act fanatically on his feeling toward minorities mainly aimed at the black race, can one blame him for his actions?

At a young age Derek was brainwashed by his Nazi father to hate anyone who wasn't white protestant. Derek's father was an extremely respectable fireman who worked hard for his town.
