Summary:
Describes the importance of ballistic missiles to the defense of the United States. Explores the history of missle development.
Have you ever wondered if a country ever launched a missile against America; what would happen? In this paper, I'm going to talk about the importance of ballistic missiles, because it is very vital. What I'm going to talk about is history of ballistic missiles, and how it affects America. Also, expenditures like how much the new missile defense budget, newest missiles, and newest development. Another topic I'm going to talk about is why the United States of America needs ballistic missiles. A reason why America needs ballistic missiles is other countries feel like the United States is a world power. Another reason is America needs them to feel secure is that if another country starts a nuclear war and before America gets blown up we get the chance to blow them up twenty-two times over. The United states has ballistic missil es, has a large budget to the Department of Defense, and the United States is a world power
Ballistic Missile
"The modern ballistic missile is based on a design in use since the German V-2 rocket. During World War II, the Germans used the V-2 to terrorize and kill the British.... A ballistic missile can be launched from land, from a silo, from mobile platforms on trucks or trains, from submarine or ship, or from an airplane...A ballistic missile is a tube some thirty to over one hundred feet tall, almost completely filled with either liquid or solid fuel." (Missile Threat.com). Fort Greely is the newest and the most important due to increased missile threats.
According to MissileThreat.com Fort Greely is nicknamed "the first line in America's missile defense," The importance now from missiles are there are twelve countries with nuclear weapons, twenty-eight countries have ballistic missiles. Countries developing ballistic missiles include Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Pakistan, India, Iran and Syria. The importance of the newest base in Alaska is that there is a growing threat even though we have a very complex system of ballistic defense Russia still has over a thousand ICBM's and would overwhelm the United States.
Expenditures
Some of the new expenditures that I'm going to talk about are new missiles how much the government spends on them to be maintained, new experiments, and running a base. According to the President of United States of America "The Congress has authorized the full $9.1 billion that I requested for ballistic missile defense. The spread of ballistic missile technology, along with the spread of weapons of mass destruction, is a terrible danger to America and to the world, and we must have the tools and the technologies to properly protect our people."
The new expenditures are a new ballistic missile called "A Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) weapon is prepared for testing at the Eglin Air Force Armament Center on March 11, 2003." This new missile is the largest non-nuclear weapon (defenselink.mil)
The United States is a world power
I believe the United States is a world power and growing. One of the reasons why I believe the united states was all the sudden a world power is because the united states was surrounded by both friendly and weak nations, also was situated by two very large oceans. (Digital History)
I believe the United States is a world power because we control the world. Imagine a country like Iran, Saudi Arabia had potential nuclear weapons and we had a clue that they had potential of launching them the president of the United States would say that the countries have a leader of some kind is said to be torturing civilians and has given to the public that they are very bad people so that the society would want to go to war to that "harmful" country. I got that information from one of Adolph Hitler's advisors.
Do you think of all the countries in the world have some type of missile capability? Well most of the countries especially in Russia and China.
