Why Study Economics

Summary:   Economics help to understand societal and global affairs, help us to become better informed voters, and teach us about choice and decision making.

Because of the fact that economics is such a big part of life, it is important that we fully understand it. Economics is used in almost all aspects of life, and is a big part of many of the decisions that we make everyday. Economics is such an important area to study in that it helps to understand societal and global affairs, helps us to become better informed voters, and much more. When asked why economics is important to study, my mother and I shared almost the same thoughts.

Economics is about choice and decision making. Many professionals deal with economics on a daily basis and must make decisions in situations where resources are scarce. It is used in many fields of employment such as government, finance, business, administration, law and many others. Through study economics, we can learn from situations such as the Great Depression, poverty, and wealth, and figure out how to avoid such situations in the future. We need to know economics in order to understand, live and exist in our world today, and to understand how the business world functions. Also, as a nation, we can better solve problems because we know whether or not certain methods to solve such issues have worked or not in the past. We also need to study economics to create or exterminate laws.

We can look back and see which laws were effective, as well as determining which laws are no longer useful.

I took some time out to interview my mother as to whether or not she thinks the study of economics is important, and why or why not. In her opinion, it gives you a better understanding of how the world's economy works so that you can know where your money goes and how the government decides to spend money. She believes that by knowing how the government spends money will help us to understand what they go through and how they make decisions on which programs get funded and which do not. It also teaches us about how to budget your own money and how the government budgets money as well. Finally, she added that through studying economics, you really learn the value of a dollar.

All in all, economics, the study of how goods and services are produced, distributed, and used, is so important to understand. Having an understanding can help us to somewhat predict the future in that we know how certain decisions affect certain things. We can learn from the experiences of nations of the past and avoid their errors, which will enable us to create a better future for our nations and those to come. I believe that studying economics nowadays is more important now than it ever has been. Our economy has come so far from where we were years ago. Economics is a huge part of almost every decision that we make, as well as the decisions that the government has to make for our country. I found the internet to be quite useful for this essay. In my research, I learned how the world functions and about the many trials and tribulations the government must go through in order to make the right decisions for our country.
