The Problems of Obesity

Summary:   Obesity is a serious health problem in the United States, and a life-threatening condition. Discussed are the definition of obesity, as well as its side effects, prevention and treatment options.


Are you at risk of dieing form a deadly health problem? Over 30% of the population in the United States are obese or at the risk of being obese. Obesity is a growing concern among docters. Obeseity dosent just show up over night, there are many ways to become obese. Once a person becomes obese, there are many health problems and dieses that come up and affect a person's life and how they live it. After a person reaches, obeseity they can lose the weight and it would lengthen their life. Being obese is a huge problem a riseing in America and is causing many people each year to die an early death.

Obesity is a growing health problem in the United States. This epidemic is not just affecting adults but is also growing and now "15% of children six to 19 are becoming obese." Selby reported. If your BMI is 30% or greater, you are considered obese. Gaining weight dosn't just happen all at once it takes a while to become obese. There are many ways to become to get there the first way a person can become overweight is their diet and life style. The way this affects a persons weight is when a person takes in more calories then they burn off in a day. Because the calories are not burned off in a day's exercise, they store in fat cells then the fat cells expand. Another thing that causes obesity is genetics. The genetics of obesity are part of their genetics make-up. A person whos parents are obese have a higher risk of being obese them selves. If you become obese, you can still have a healthy life style with out health problems if treated.

There are many health risk in being overweight or obese. There are some dieses that will affect your insides like breathing problems, heartburn, Liver problems and Heart problems such as a stroke or high blood pressure. Being obese can also cause emotional and psychological problems. In a proven study, most overweight people have low self-esteem and deppression. These pshcholoical problems can hurt a person's social life. There are also external problems that have to do with obeseity. A person who is overweight will be teased and stared at when in public places. When a person is obese, they will not be as mobile as someone that is of a healthy weight. The overweight person will not be able to be as physical so it will just cause in getting bigger and bigger until they become so big, they die because of it. These problems will not only hurt people physically but also mentally. These problems can kill. Unless they lose the weight.

If a human becomes obese and do not want to stay like that, there are three major ways to treat or prevent obeseity. The first way is to eat a healthy diet consisting of "2800 for active men and teenage boys, 2500 for active woman and teenage girls and 2000 for adults who are not active." Was stated in the New Dietary Guidelines video. This should be a low fat diet not one high in saturated fats. No person should consume more fat in grams then half of their body weight. Another way to treat obeseity is to change your life style and becomeing more active, exercise at least 30 minutes a day every day. The third way is to have medical surgory such as lyposuction or a gastric bypass surgery. These procedures are usully for morbidly obese people or people that have a BMI over 40%. If nothing is done to change the weight of some one is obese they will die in a short time.

Many people of all ages in the United States are over weight or obese. Being obese can kill you at an early age and dosent give you a full life. Becoming obesse dosent take one day, it is a progerssion over time. When a person becomes obese, many health concerns come along with that. Most which are life thretening. A person that becomes obese dosnt have to stay like that they can easily lose it and become a little healthyer. This problem is affecting over 30% of adults and 15% of adolecens. If this problem is not looked at in an effort to change it will kill off many humans before they age of 40.
