Jonas is an eleven year old who is chosen to become the next Receiver of Memories in the community. His Assignment is the most honored and respected one, and Jonas has the skills, honesty, and courage needed to become a Receiver. As he begins his training with The Giver and slowly understands the truth about the community, though, Jonas feels that things must change. Planning together with The Giver, Jonas decides to escape the community forever in order to unleash all the memories that have been kept from the citizens for so long.

At first Jonas was a none thinking eleven year old kid. Now that he is turning twelve and is training to be a receiver he is acting more mature and older about the situations that happen. Before he never realized anything but now he is trying to help everyone in the community.
