Summary: Algeria is a multi-party republic in Africa that was ruled by France for over one hundred years. Algeria gained independence for France in 1962, though recent fighting in 1992 through 1998 has resulted in over one hundred thousand deaths. When Bouteflika became Algeria's President, terrorism declined. However Algeria's weak economy persists.
Algeria is a country in Africa. Algeria is considered a third world nation. I will be talking about Algeria's land and climate. I will also be talking about their government, their people, and their economy.

The French has ruled Algeria for over one hundred years. When France ruled Algeria there were over one million French that lived in Algeria. Algeria gained independence for France in 1962. Recent fighting in 1992 through 1998 has resulted in over one hundred thousand deaths. When Bouteflika became Algeria's president the number of Algerians went down from over one thousand two hundred to about fifty or sixty a month. Terrorism has gone down a great deal since Bouteflika became president. Algeria's weak economy has persisted into the 1990's. Many manufacturing businesses have and are suffering from low productivity.
