Romanesque and Gothic Art

Summary:   An analysis of Gothis and Romanesque art and architecture.


In the Romanesque Period Europe happened at the turn of the century. The period is called Romanesque not because it's Roman but it's similar to it. The Romanesque Period brings with it the sprouting of many Cathedrals across Europe. The sort of "hero" in Romanesque art was found through battle. Immortality in heaven was achieved through this. Monasteries were becoming very rich at this point in time. The Crusades were also happening. The Crusades were holy wars against anyone not Christian; if you weren't Christian you were killed. The Crusades took place in the Middle East where Jesus had lived.

Romanesque art is mainly in the form of Cathedrals now found all over Europe. They were heavy looking buildings, made huge to hold the many pilgrims. Some architectural concerns were simply making sure it would stand.....
