Is it Vital for a Jew to Attend the Synagogue Each Shabbat?

Summary: Evaluates the question of whether it is it vital that jews attend the synagogue?
Half of Shabbat is celebrated in the synagogue, as the sun sets on Friday evening and Jewish houses are finally prepared to welcome in Shabbat men attend the synagogue for the Shabbat services, and some times all the family will go. AT the synagogue, Shabbat prayers are said begging with the evening service, at the end of the service they will wish each other a `Shabbat Shalom'. Also, on Saturday morning there is a service in the synagogue. Here the rabbi will read sections from the Torah and later gives a sermon. There is also an additional service called a musaf. In the afternoon the males visit the synagogue again for the rabbi to perform havdalah. This marks the end of the holy day. So going to the synagogue plays quite a major part in Shabbat and takes up quite a lot of the time.
