House on Mango Street: Facing Our Inner Demons

Summary:   Esperanza is a young lady living on the wrong side of town on Mango Street. She faces the daunting task of confronting her inner demons, self-doubt, negative influences and societal challenges. Success will allow her to leave Mango Street, although she somehow knows she will someday be drawn back to her past.


There are many occasions in life where we have to face our inner demons. More often than not we learn to conquer

them and overcome the situations as overwhelming as they may be. For others, particulary of the weak lot, conquering

one's demon's is no easy task. In fact, for some people, facing their demons head on is not just a mental battle, it

becomes a battle with life itself. In those cases, they fall prey to their innermost fears and fall short of what they are

truly capable of. The story The House on Mango Street dictates the life of Esperanza, a Hispanic girl that lives on

Mango street. Esperanza has many conflicts in her life and the main one resides in her own mind. She has always

been hounded by negative thoughts pertaining to.....
