Heinrich Himmler - Hitlers Right-Hand Man

Summary:   This is an exploration of the life, motives and activities of Heinrich Himmler, Hitler's close ally. He was the creator of the Schutzstaffel, or the SS, and gained power over the Gestapo.

Heinrich Himmler

Heinrich Himmler was a mass murder just like Adolf Hitler. Himmler was considered Hitler's right-hand man. Himmler was not known early in his life, but later on he met Hitler and the two had very much in common.

Himmler was a short, pudgy, non-athletic man from Germany. He was very nearsighted and wore very thick glasses. His thick glasses were the most distinguishing quality about Himmler. He was a very easy man to spot because he stuck out like a sore thumb in a crowd.

Himmler got little respect from outsiders. His power was more private than public. He became known by creating the Schutzstaffel, also commonly known as the SS. The SS. became the most feared, most well known, and most powerful organization in Nazi Germany. The SS. got Himmler respect by all of his peers and by everyone, including Hitler.

Himmler soon joined Hitler in his quest for a perfect world. Hitler then soon appointed Himmler, as the Reich Fuhrer SS. Hitler was so impressed by the SS. that he later on appointed him other positions of high power.

Himmler did marry in 1928 to a woman that apparently was not very good looking. The reason they married was that Himmler did not believe in good looks. She was the only one that was right for him in his mind. Why his wife would marry such a man no one knows.

Here is a brief overview of Himmler and his success. In 1900 Himmler was born. In the time period from 1900 to 1925 he was creating scandalous schemes and organizations, such as the SS. In 1925 Himmler joined the Nazi power. In 1926 Hitler and Himmler finally came in contact with each other. In 1926 Himmler met his wife. In 1928 Himmler and his wife married. In 1926 he was named the director of propaganda. He served this position from 1926 to 1930. In 1929 Himmler was appointed the Reich Fuhrer SS. In 1934 he gained power of the Gestapo, the secret police. In 1943 Hitler appointed Himmler as the director of the interior. From 1943 to 1944 he became the director of home front operations and chief of German armed forces operating within Germany. In 1945 the British army captured Himmler. Also in 1945 Himmler committed suicide shortly after his capture.

Truthfully I don't think Hitler and Himmler were the closest of friends because they didn't have very much in common besides death. Hitler just liked Himmler's ideas and way of thinking. Himmler was a mass murder and no one knows why. He grew up with a rich family, he had all the toys he could want, and his parents loved him. For such a mass murder he made himself seem very average middle class. Himmler did not like riches as much as one might think. He kept diaries of all his thoughts and plans in his every day life. For a mass murder that was not very hansom he seemed to be easygoing, jovial, and at peace with himself.
