"Central Park West" by Woody Allen

Summary: A review of the play "Central Park West" by Woody Allen, an examination of the ways in which infidelity can affect a marriage or a relationship.

Woody Allen proves once again that he is able to create a complicated, entertaining play with a simple set, a few characters, and a whole lot of remarkable dialogue. In the one-act Central Park West, he continues his trend of uncovering secret affairs and he looks at the way infidelity can affect a marriage or a relationship.

The play takes place in an apartment that doubles as a home and an office for the successful psychoanalyst Phyllis Riggs, and her husband Sam. The play opens to an obviously distraught Phyllis and her confused friend, Carol; Phyllis had called Carol and told her that she needed to see her because it was an emergency. Phyllis is quite reluctant at first to give up the reason why she left Carol a frantic phone message, but she is able to confess that Sam has decided to leave her for another woman...
