Joseph Priestley's Use of the Scientific Method in Observing Air Restoration

Summary: An explanation of the scientific method of hypothesizing, organization, testing, observing, and communication. The explanation uses as an example Joseph Priestly's experimentation with vegetation under the hypothesis that vegetation is used in the restoration of air after a candle burns.
"I flatter myself that I have accidentally hit upon a method of restoring air which has been injured by the burning of candles..." Joseph Priestley acknowledged this in 1772 while experimenting with vegetation. To prove this, Priestley hypothesized and organized a model to test and seek the regularities. After developing a logical hypothesis, Priestley had to test his hypothesis and note observations. To make his idea of the restoration of air after a candle is burned known to others, he had to record all of his notes and tell other scholars about his discoveries. Joseph Priestley used the scientific method of hypothesizing, organization, testing, observing, and communication to create and develop more knowledge of vegetation and the restoration of air.
