Abortion in Canada - Right or Wrong?

Summary:   In 1969, a law was passed to regulate abortion under the Criminal Code. It permitted a qualified medical practioner to perform an abortion, if prior approval was obtained by a Therapeutic Abortion Committee. A 1988 Supreme Court of Canada decision found this process unconstitutional. The 1969 law was rendered unenforceable and abortion was effectively decriminalized. As of March 1998 a woman may obtain an abortion in all provinces and territories of Canada, except Prince Edward Island.

For many years now many different people with different life situations had different opinions about abortion. Some people say it is completely wrong, some say it is fine under certain circumstances, and some think it is right. Abortion is wrong because most of the women are unsure about their decisions, and some women may regret it later in their life, wondering whether the made the right choice or not. How can they be sure when they are taking their own child's life? The federal government should eliminate legalized abortion because it is wrong morally to kill a human being, especially your own child, and is wrong according to the Bible.

In 1969, a law was passed to regulate abortion under the Criminal Code. However, in most hospitals and clinics, the procedure is limited to a gestational age range that is specific to that facility(http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/rhs-ssg/factshts/inabor_e.html#fig1) . Between 1990 and 1995, the abortion rate increases from 14.6 to 15.5. The 1995 ration corresponds to 1 abortion for every 3-4 live births, as you can see in the chart below:

(http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/rhs-ssg/factshts/inabor_e.html#fig1). Also, in 1995, 20% of abortions were obtained by females less than 20 years of age; 52% by women 20-29; 26% by women 30-39 and all other by women 40 and older. 54% of women who obtained an abortion had a baby previously; 3rd of these woman had had a previous abortion (http://www.fotf.ca/familyfacts/issues/abortion/stats.html )

How can u say abortion is not wrong if it goes against what God has said? God says that the unnatural death is a murder. Although the Bible does not exactly talk about abortion, it does talk about life before birth. "If men who are fighting hot pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, you are to take life fore life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise" (Quest NIV pg. 235; Exodus 21:22-23). The Bible does not tell us that the abortion is wrong, but it tells us that the loss of the baby because of someone should be punished. God considers the fetus inside a woman to be alive, and its unnatural death a murder, by saying "take life for life." People go against God's will when they have an abortion. It is equally a murder of a human being as a murder of a person who has already been born.

Many teenagers have said they have no choice but to have an abortion, because they were too young to have a kid. Teenagers should be mature enough to grow a child if they are mature enough to make their choice of being sexually active, and it is their own choice not to use protection. It is a fact that sexually active teenager who does not use contraceptives has a 90% chance of becoming pregnant within one year. In the graph below we can see that just a little more than a half of teenage pregnant girls actually have their babies. Which makes 44% of children dead and the reason for 30% out of that is abortion, which is extremely sad.

(http://www.agi-usa.org/pubs/fb_teen_sex.html ). So if teenage girls do become pregnant, 4 in 10 of them would go for abortion, which makes only 6 of them left. Because of teenage stupidity, 4 out of 10 little kids are killed. Should we let that be legal? Teenagers are afraid to force all the problems that they will have if they keep the baby. They do not think that they are mature enough for a kid; they know it will change their life, but what they do not know is how they are going to pay for baby's clothes, doctors, food, and how they can just keep up with their life and education. There were about 1274,000 abortions among teens in 1996 (http://www.knightsite.com/kc9496/unborn62.htm). That is 1274,000 unborn kids, because of abortion. In one year, 1274,000 human beings were killed because of teenagers who do not think about what they are doing and what is going to happen next.

Of cores just this essay will not change people's mind and people's opinions about abortion, but can we think it is right after all of those scary facts? And the fact that large amount of women died from illegal abortion? To be exact, in 1957- there were 32 deaths, in 1963- 25, in 1966- 13, in 1969- 11 (Statistics Canada, 84-203), which was only in Canada. If those women did not try to kill their own fetus, they would be alive. Does it seem right for women to go to that doctor's office and by their own will kill their own child? More than half of them probably did not even tell the father's of the babies about getting an abortion. It is unfair to the men, because that could have been a child he was waiting for his whole life, and the woman just takes it away. It may not seem like a right time for her, but what is there is no right time? A baby can't just be planned! It is not a toy or food that you can just say: "I do not feel like having it today." Just think about what is your parents aborted you? Do you like your life right now? You should give an opportunity for someone else to like and enjoy their life!
