The book Cain is one of the many novels written by James Bryon Huggins. The book, written in nineteen ninety-six, was the fourth best action-thriller written by this incredible author. For a while he was one of the most sought after action-film writers in Hollywood. He lives in Decatur, Alabama with his wife Karen and their two children. His previous jobs as a soldier, cop, and award winning novelist have formed his imagination to produce such an amazing action thriller as Cain. Throughout this book, the lifelong battle between good and evil is depicted through the conflicts between one human soldier and an ancient undying evil.

Cain is the ultimate tale of sacrifice and hardship and how three people persevered through these trials and tests of their strength and faith. The story begins when an evil spirit is released from an ancient tomb discovered by Father Marcelle, a priest that has fallen away from his faith. This evil spirit named Cain inhabits a super-human body created with the latest technology deep in a CIA laboratory by a young beautiful scientist named Maggie. Cain escapes the lab through a bloody battle with many soldiers. Solomon, a retired soldier is recruited to destroy this killing machine. Needing the blood of Maggie's daughter Amy to become immortal, Cain kidnaps her from a safe-house. After following Cain and meeting him in a bloody conflict Solomon temporarily defeats Cain.

Cain breaks into a museum to steal an ancient book of black magic. When Cain converted from spirit to physical form he lost all of his knowledge, including his plans to dominate the world. He needs the book for the spell to retrieve his lost memory. Solomon met with Cain in many different bloody confrontations where both were injured badly. Eventually Cain revealed himself to a satanic cult that had been worshiping him for hundreds of years. The members of this satanic cult provided Cain with every single thing he needed to carry out his plans, including a castle to subside in and a small army to fight for him. After searching long and hard Solomon discovered the location of Cain's secret palace. With the help of father marcelle and Maggie he swiftly destroyed all of the soldiers of Cain. After a vicious, bloody battle between Cain and Solomon, Cain the enemy of every thing good, fell in pain. As life slowly left his body he reminisced about how he used to rule over angels and how he used to travel to the far ends of the universe and was humbled by his defeat from a normal human man. His body fell lifeless and the war was finally over.

Solomon, the main character in this story, is a very dynamic character. In the beginning of the story he is living in Death Valley. He is banished from society because of the revenge he had taken after terrorists murdered his wife and daughter. A retired marine lieutenant, Solomon runs in the desert and keeps his body meticulously fit. When he was recruited to kill Cain he met a beautiful, young scientist named Maggie and Amy her daughter. After spending time with them both he noticed that it awakened something inside of him. He fought with all his might when Amy was kidnapped and he would have given his life to save her. He fell in love with both of them and by the end of the story he loved them as his own family.

Solomon is a very dynamic character during this story. Solomon learned how to care about people again. He also discovered that sacrifice is more rewarding than sitting back and doing nothing. For example when he searched furiously for Amy after Cain kidnapped her.

I think that this novel was an excellent book. Action, suspense, strategy, and a military theme all caught my attention. There were many scenes that contained detailed combat and which included explosions and gunfire making this a perfect book for any young man to read. What I liked best about the book was the characters and the general theme of the book. I would definitely recommend this book to any young man because of the action, thrill, and suspense that this book includes.
