The Resistance of a Wire

Summary: An investigation of the degree to which the length of a wire affects the resistance on a complete circuit.
Investigation of the resistance of a wire

Plan

Factor to be investigated:

We are investigating whether the length of a wire affects the resistance on a complete circuit.

Prediction:

I predict that the resistance in a complete circuit will vary with the length of the Constantan wire. Furthermore, I predict that the longer the wire, he less current will flow, which in turn increases the resistance. This is because electric current is the movement of electrons through a conductor, so when resistance is high conductivity is low. Therefore, the electrons will have to push their way through a shorter path of atoms in the wire, reducing the resistance whereas if the wire was longer, the number of atoms in the wire would increase.

Electron theory:

Objects become charged because the atoms of all substances contain both positive and negative charges. The positive charges are found in the nucleus...
