Summary:   A character portrait of Wang Lung, the dynamic, "round" main character in the story The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck.


Characters are one of the most important elements in a story. They have the ability to make the reader like or dislike them. A lot of the time there are certain characteristics in a character that each person can relate to. The basic types of characters are flat, round, static, dynamic, and stock. A flat character usually has only one or two characteristics while a round character is the opposite, with many characteristics. A static character is one which is not affected by the events that happen around him/her while a dynamic character is the opposite to static, changing because of events in the story. A stock character is one which has characteristics that would already be assumed by what the characters status is (mother, father, doctor, gang member etc.). In the story, "The Good Earth".....
