Schindler's List Essay

Schindler's List is a movie about the persecution and segregation of Jews in and around Germany. It showed the hard life of the Jews during this time in history.

The Nazis persecuted the Jews. They basically persecuted them because Hitler wanted to ensure that his new German empire was pure. The Jews arrived in camps by the hundreds and thousands. Once they were there, they were sorted by sex, age, and health. This instantly tore the families apart. Many were taken away to be shot or put in gas chambers. The ones who were healthy enough went to work in the labor camps, where many were starved and beaten. Others were part of sick experiments. Some had tattoos put on them for identification purposes. Most of the Jews were killed and buried in huge graves. They eventually cremated their bodies. Jews would have their gold fillings removed and collect their hair.

The Jews were treated as subhuman. Their rights were taken away and they were treated like guinea pigs in the labor and death camps. It is just amazing that someone could go through with killing so many people and treating them so poorly. The Jews were so scared that they hid while the SS went by taking and killing their family members. In the movie they had showed many Jews hiding and the SS coming back later and night and killing them all. The Jews had done nothing wrong to be shot and killed.

Schindler's attitude in the beginning of the movie was him being a wealthy business man who liked what he did. He liked his Jewish workers because he knew he was saving them from being killed. He kept hiring Jews to work for him. One day the Nazis came along and took all of his workers at his pot factory. He became very irritated by this. He then opened up an ammunition factory in which he intentionally made faulty ammo.

While he was eating dinner, Stern said that one of the workers wanted to thank him for providing him with this job. Schindler became mad at Stern because the man had one arm. Later the one armed man was shot, Schindler became mad once again because he was a quality worker. Towards the end of the movie, Schindler's ammo factory was closed and his Jews were to be taken to extermination camps. He paid all of his money he had to Goeth, to save the Jews lives. He then realized that he could have sold his car and his Nazi pin to save even more Jews. He ended up crying. Over the course of the movie he was in a pretty good mood.

During the movie I felt shocked by the way that the Nazis could treat the Jews like that. It is just wrong. I don't know how someone could possibly get joy out of killing people for no reason. I just thought that it was really unfair and inhumane to do that to them.

The most emotional part of the movie for me was when the Jews were all piled on the train. They were packed very close together and had no where to sit or use the bathroom. Many of them died and weren't given food or water. Also in the extermination camps when the women just got there hair cut and they are rushed all over the camp and being barked at by dogs. They were also told to get naked in the middle of winter, in an unheated environment.

Our opinion of the Holocaust is that it was basically a waste of life. It was the unnecessary persecution and extermination of Jews. In the movie, the Jews are unloaded from the train cars and marched into lines. They are then sorted out and prepared for their staying at the camp. They cut their hair and take showers. They are made fun of, beat, and then forced to work. Others are just rushed off to be shot and killed, worked to death, starved to death, or gassed.

It was very inhumane what the Nazis did to the Jews. The Jews didn't do anything wrong to deserve what the Nazis did to them. It is just hard to think what it would have been like if Hitler's plan would have worked. The world would have been so much different today.
