'How Do Representations of Our World Compare with Different Texts'

Summary:   After viewing the film `The Castle', it was well established that the film was based around the stereotype of Australian, which doesn't resemble our world today. After studying and analysing the Short Story Collection and viewing the film `Spider and Rose', followed by developing ideas on the representations of our world in the texts, it is implied and indicated throughout every text that there are aspects of our world presented in these texts.

After studying and analysing the Short Story Collection and viewing the film 'Spider and Rose', followed by developing ideas on the representations of our world in the texts, it is implied and indicated throughout every text that there are aspects of our world presented in these texts. These texts also show the continuities and changes over time that occurs to the aspects of our world. When I found out that the different aspects of our world can be represented in a number of ways, it was clearer that the other texts we have studied in class, such as 'The Castle', must have some ideas of the aspects in our world.

After viewing the film 'The Castle', it was well established that the film was based around the stereotype of Australian, which doesn't resemble our world today. Although some aspects of the film can be related to our world today, the majority of the film was based on the 'True Australian Way of Life'. The stereotype given to Australia is based on beer, beer guts, stubbies and thongs, and dumb hairdressers. But as Australians ourselves we know that this stereotype is something ridiculous and doesn't relate to any aspect of our lives.

The aspects of the film that manages to incorporate our world today, is the traditional nuclear family and the communication and relationships that occur within the family home. One of the other main aspects of our world presented in the film 'The Castle', is the love and support the family shares with each other, as well as for other people they are close with and care about. The way that Daryl (the father) looks out for his neighbours during the compulsory acquisition, is courageous and something that you would do for a neighbour that you have been good friends with for a long time. This shows the friendships that people have among each other, and is something quite common in Australia just as it is in many other countries.

'The Castle' emphasises the point extremely and goes overboard on their impersonations and the stereotype of Australia. When comparing how 'The Castle' showed these representations of our world with the other texts given to us, it is quite clear to say that there are many different beliefs and perspectives of Australia. The relevance of comparing the texts given to us gives us the opportunity to view the way people see our world and how they have different opinions of it.
