Summary: John Kerr's action as Governor General to dismiss Gough Whitlam and the Labor Party from Australian government on the 11th of November 1975 is a heavily disputed issue.
John Kerr's action as Governor General to dismiss Gough Whitlam and the Labor Party from government on the 11th of November 1975 is a heavily disputed issue. There are many different perspectives of this issue. People who supported the Labor Government at the time are bound to believe that John Kerr's actions were irrational and unwarranted. Whilst the people who were against the Labor Government will believe that the action had to be taken to prevent Australia's economic troubles deepening. Through all of the biased opinions I have reached the belief that, John Kerr did what he did for the good of the nation, answering the question at hand. Gough Whitlam was incredibly ignorant to the gravity of the situation at the time. I shall outline a number of the reasons why I believe that John Kerr made the right decision in dismissing the Labor Party from government.
