Fashion coordinators help to maintain an organized atmosphere; therefore, one must be aware of trend, trade journals, textile and fabric updates, and merchandising. Being a Fashion Coordinator, involves knowing the world of fashion, travel, working well with others and long hours. As a Fashion Coordinator, you must be able to promote new fashions and coordinate promotional activities, such as fashion shows, to influence consumer acceptance. Studying fashion and trade journals, traveling to clothing departments, attending fashion shows, and visiting major manufacturers and merchandise markets, will help one to obtain information on fashion trends. Fashion coordinating involves, people skills. Consulting with buying personnel, to gain advice regarding types of fashion, stores will purchase and feature for an upcoming season is a major part of fashion merchandising. Publicity, is a major part of the fashion world; hence, displaying departments of merchandise to be publicized will help set trends. Coordinating for fashion shows can consist of selecting garments and accessories to be shown or worn at fashion shows. Through fashion shows, magazines, or photo shoots, one can provides an outlook on current fashions, style trends, and use of accessories.

A Fashion Coordinator has a very important and time-consuming job, thus meaning a certain amount of education is needed to hold and maintain this job. To enter this occupation, you must hold a minimum of a four-year bachelor's degree Fashion Design or Fashion Merchandising, some positions as a coordinator; you only need five years of relevant experience. Fashion Coordinators, must have high levels of creative talent, an understanding of consumer behavior, communication skills, organization skills and commitment. In becoming a fashion Coordinator, the best steps to take with extensive experience through the fashion industry usually begins at retail sales. First you need to become a retail sales associate then to a buyer, progressing to an assistant fashion coordinator then to a fashion coordinator and the highest level of fashion coordinating is reaching to be a fashion director.

This job usually offers decent pay, due to its requirements and extensive work. The average salary of a fashion coordinator, is $40,000 or higher. Many institutions offer the training or degree for one looking into majoring in Fashion Coordinating. A local university that offers a bachelors degree and higher in fashion, is VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University). For someone who is interested in a more Fashion oriented area with a larger amount of people interested, FIT (Fashion Institution of Technology), located in NYC also offers the education required for this job and outside internships. Many schools offer the degree and training necessary for this job.
