Summary:  

The development of Reuven in "The Chosen" by Chaim Potok.

Many challenges across which people come are definitive of their life. They derive their success and integrity from their mistakes and the obstacles they have overcome. The experience leaves people better and more prepared for the trials and tribulations to come. Through his adversities in The Chosen, Reuven Malter emerges stronger. In the wake of each ordeal is a more integral and understanding Reuven, his new comprehension of each experience aiding him to be more appreciative and understanding than before.

After playing a grueling baseball game with Danny Saunders and sustaining an injury, Reuven is able to return to his life with a fuller understanding of life. He learns to expand his horizon beyond that of which he had previously. The surgery and the revealing of his eye, symbolic of his newfound viewpoints, give him a chance.....
