Lambda DNA Lab

Summary:   The purpose, materials, procedures, conclusion, and application of a DNA experiment intended to better understand restriction enzymes and how to manipulate them through isolation of a particular gene. In the experiment, restriction enzymes help to cut the Lambda DNA into different fragments and separate those fragments using gel electrophoresis, which scientists can find helpful in finding preventions or cures for different kinds of diseases.

Lambda DNA Lab

I. Purpose- The purpose of this DNA experiment is to analyze and get a better understanding of restriction enzymes and how to isolate a particular gene to manipulate it. This experiment will introduce us to biotechnology by isolating and manipulating DNA. We will perform an analysis on Lambda DNA using techniques of genetic engineering with restriction enzymes. We will cut the Lambda DNA into different fragments using restriction enzymes and separate the DNA fragments using gel electrophoresis. This experiment will also allow us to get used to scientific instruments like the pipettes and gel box.

II. Materials-

  1. 1.5 ìl reaction tubesCups
  2. small enzyme tubes (Hind III, Eco RI, Bam HI)Foam block
