Eddies Character Towards His Family

Summary:   a view from the bridge

by arthur miiller

The character of Eddie is an interesting one; he's a loving caring father. He can sometimes be overprotective of his niece. He's a hardworking longshoreman with a sense of humor and on top of all hospitable and an honorable man. His relationship with his wife and niece seems to be full of love and friendship.

Eddie is a loving caring father to his wife's niece, Catherine. This is shown when she shows him a new dress and he says" Oh, if your mother was alive to see you now! She wouldn't believe it! "and "With your hair that way you look like a Madonna, you know that? You're the Madonna type" this shows that Eddie is fond and proud of Catherine. I really like him for that kindness and sense of humor but he can really change into another man in a blink of eye. He can change from the protective uncle into a jealous one "I don't like the looks they are giving you at the candy store." Most of the time he is that way in evidence of when she was waving to Louis which is one of Eddies friends he tells her "I could tell you things about Louis which you wouldn't wave to him no more." Eddie treats Catherine as if she's his daughter "I want you to be with different kind of people I want you to be in a nice office" this shows that Eddie treats Catherine as a daughter because the only one who wants another person better than him is one's own parent.

Eddie is also a responsible person which takes responsibility of his family. I feel sympathy for Eddie because he has no children and the fact that the fact that Catherine his one niece is moving "And then you'll move away." I don't like her moving away because this would drive Eddie crazy not only this but he wants her to finish school to be in a good standard.

Eddie's relationship with Beatrice is full of love and sacrifices. It is a good relationship. This good relationship is shown when Beatrice and Eddie is discussing the arrival of Marco and Rodolfo. Eddies sense of humor is shown when he told Beatrice "You got such a heart that I'll end up on the floor with you." Eddie usually has respect for his wife even with simple things like not having a tablecloth and the best thing is that he treats these problems "Why'nt you run down buy a tablecloth." Eddie is also an honorable guy "It's an honour b." Eddie just loves his wife and wishes her his best.

I like Eddies character because he is a good person. He is sometimes overprotective but this is always for Catherine sake. He treats Catherine and his wife in an applicable way and he adores them both.
