Charlemagne Biography

Summary:   This essay is about Charlemagne and it includes information on his early life, his campaigns, his coronation and the decline of his empire


Over history, there have been some great conquerors like Alexander the great, Genghis khan, and Osman of the Ottoman Empire. Along with these class of conquerors is Charlemagne. Charlemagne (Charles the great) goes by the following names, Charlemagne of course, Charles, and in Latin, Carolus Magnus. He was of German blood and speech.

Charlemagne was born on April 2, 742 in Northern Europe. He was the eldest son of the Frankish leader, Pepin the short who had the title of mayor of the palace under the Merovingian Dynasty of Frankish kings. However, the Merovingian Kings became increasingly weak one after another, so Pepin decided to leave this lesser title of Mayor to assume kingship of the Franks in 751. In order to have this rule, he needed the support of the Pope who at that time was.....
