The Death Penalty

Summary:   Debates the controversial topic of capital punishment in the United States. Argues that the practice is morally and ethically wrong. Provides statistical data on its application.


There are more than tens of thousands lives lost due to the death penalty each year. The death penalty today still exist in many countries and is very obvious that it is still used in a modern civilized country like the United States of America. The death penalty defined by Oxford dictionary is said to be "Putting a condemned person to death"(Lieback and Pollard 1995,129, 4th ed). By using the death penalty many innocent lives are lost that should not have been taken away. The death penalty in the United States of America is evidently racist to African American and other colored people. The death penalty is a harsh and cruel punishment and is not a deterrent for criminals. Therefore, there should be an abolishment of the death penalty because innocent people's.....
