Trip to Barbados

Summary:   Describes the experience of vacationing on a southern Caribbean cruise. Details the experience of being a tourist on Barbados.

One of the best places I visited was Barbados. Last Thanksgiving, our family took a seven day Southern Caribbean Cruise on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas. During those seven days, we stopped at six different Islands, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados. All of the Islands were really beautiful, but the best one was Barbados.

We arrived in Bridgetown, Barbados at 7:00A.M. Our tour was scheduled at around 9:00A.M. We got off the ship and found our way to the tour guide, Cassius Clay. The four of us climbed into the back of his Range Rover and took off. We wound our way through the city streets with Cassius telling us about the area. Almost every house we stopped at Cassius would talk to the people. We drove through a small jungle and stopped for a brief time at a scenic view. We were heading to our lunch break when Cassius decided to take a short cut. This meant driving down a very steep hill that really was not meant for a vehicle.

We had a delicious lunch at an Oceanside restaurant. After eating lunch, we all climbed back into the Range Rover and continued on our trip. This included stopping at a clay shop and a house that had a monkey tied up in the front yard. As we were going down a dirt road through a sugar cane field, the tire popped. Now we were stuck in the middle of a sugar cane field with a flat tire and no spare. Our tour guide's cell phone did not work so he had to walk to a nearby house to use their phone. After about 30 minutes of waiting, another tour guide showed up and we all climbed into that Range Rover to try to catch the catamaran so we could go snorkeling.

As we pulled up to the harbor the catamaran was already gone. Instead we had to take a speed boat out to the snorkeling spot and meet it there. On our way we actually passed the catamaran and arrived to the snorkeling spot before the catamaran did so the speedboat took us a little farther down the coast. We climbed onto the catamaran and had some of the greatest snorkeling ever. We saw two sunken ships and a big coral reef with hundreds of fish. We sailed back to the harbor on the catamaran, boarded our ship and sailed to the next island. That ended one of the best places I have ever been.
