Summary:   Discusses and defines the science of sociology. Explores the modern view of sociology. Explores the contributions of Auguste Comte in the middle of the nineteenth century.


Sociology, while only recently known by this term relative to its age, has existed since nearly the beginning of recorded history. "Even ancient people tried to figure out social life. They asked questions about why war exists, why some people are more powerful than others, and why some became rich." They attributed the answers to these questions to several different things: fate, superstition, some even believed that the alignment of the heavens played a role. Of course these theories were never tested and proven, they were only believed to be true, which is what separates their view of sociology from the more modern view of sociology. With this said, what exactly is the modern view of sociology"
