About ten thousand years ago, when agriculture was invented, probably no more than five million people lived on the Earth, less than live in SanFrancisco Bay area right now. Even at the time of Christ, two thousand years ago, and the entire human population was roughly the size of the population of the United States today. By 1650 there was five hundred million people, and in 1850 only a little over a billion. Since then the population has grew over 5 billion people. What's scary is that this population boom happened in only one tenth of one percent of the history of humans. This population boom has created many major problems with the Earth, including a shortage of food, destruction of wildlife, and the decay of our planet.
