In the exhibit Far Out Corners, there is a lit cubical outline of boxes with concave corners. However, as the visitor closes one eye and begins to move back and forth between the exhibit, he views the outline as solid rotating cubes. Because of parallax and common perception, the viewer sees the stationary, partial, three-sided cube as a solid rotating cube when the viewer walks parallel to the exhibit.

Parallax is the angular shift of an object against a background due to the change of the observer's position of motion. In the exhibit, parallax causes the cubes to appear to rotate. The cube's apparent change in position is influenced by a light and a black background. The light illuminates the corners and creates the illusion of cubes, while the dark scenery contrasts with the white corners, enhancing.....
