Oedipus, A Character Analysis

Sophocles, "King Oedipus" is a classical Greek play which explores the tragic quest of one protagonist to uncover the secret of his birth, which encompass a terrible prophecy that is to be fulfilled and ultimately decide his fate. Through the course of events which transpire, there is a noticeable difference in the character of Oedipus, however some qualities still remain intact. He remains compassionate to the people of Thebes, a loving parent and an honest man. His remarkable, yet tragic change into an enlightened and conceding man is the result of a sin he unknowingly commits, which reduces him to the state of the blind prophet whom he once scorned. Oedipus recognizes that he must make sacrifices, and cannot be the revered and respected King to the city he once ruler.
