Summary:   Discusses situation comedies. Examines the structure of a sitcom and provides modern examples.


Situation comedy's are the most common or most popular form of television. The great thing about situation comedy's is that almost anyone can enjoy them. They have humour that suits people of all ages.

Situation comedy's are usually set in a trapped or enclosed environment for example in Sienfeld, The main setting for the show is in Jerry's apartment.

In situation comedy's there is usually more than one main character. They do this to keep the story interesting otherwise there would be no conflict or story line.

Situation comedy's are usually built up around conflict or disagreements, often these disagreements are brought on by stupid or unnecessary things which adds to the humour of the show, for example In Sienfeld George and Elaine are disgusted at the way Jerry expresses his affection for his girlfriend in public.
