My Mother

Summary: Essay praises the author's mother, who was born and raised in China just after it won its independence in 1949. Discusses the hardships of China during that time and the Cultural Revolution.
My mother is a normal Chinese woman. She was born in 1962 in ChangChun, a city in northeast China. Not like Americans, the Chinese's lives during that period were very hard. My mother always told me that I should treasure today's life because I didn't experienced the difficult time.

The 1960's was one of the darkest time period after China won its independence in 1949. Between 1960 and 1963, China was in a situation that lacked of food. Most of Chinese didn't have enough food to eat and millions of them died because of hungry. My mother was lucky, the place she stayed produced more food than other parts of China, and she survived after those three years.

My mother had a big family, she had six sisters, and they all lived together. The family had so many children because my mother's parents wanted to have a son, but the child was...
