An Examination of Minor Characters in A Clockwork Orange

Summary: Analyzes minor characters in "A Clockwork Orange," by Anthony Burgess. Discusses what roles these minor characters serve in the novel and the effects of their presence.
There are many minor characters in A Clockwork Orange that the author Anthony Burgess has included. There are a few that have barely any significance to neither Alex nor the plot itself; however, some of the minor characters under discussion do have an effect by being present. The characters I will talk about more intensely are Billyboy and Alex's droogs, Pete, Georgie and Dim. Out of Alex's droogs, Dim is the minor character that I intend to focus on mainly, as he has more significance to either the plot or Alex's life than the other droogs included in the novel. Some literary features are also used in the novel to create this significance of the minor characters.

Billyboy's presence has a somewhat large effect on Alex's life in the novel. I believe that Burgess has included Billyboy in the novel mostly to emphasize Alex's violent lifestyle. By including...
