Summary: Compares and contrasts the renaissance movement in Italy with the renaissance movement in the rest of Europe. Explores how both movements stressed individualism. Discusses the effect religion and the Roman Catholic church had on both movements.
The renaissance movement greatly impacted the way life was lived in Europe between the 14th and 16th centuries. This significant movement began in the country of Italy and had its principal impact there. However the movement did eventually travel out of the boot shaped country and had slightly different bearings elsewhere. The main renaissance advancement that occurred outside of Italy happened to take place mostly in the northern European countries. Some similarities between the two distinct societal developments were that both in Italy and in the north, writers began to revive the classic Latin language in texts, and that both movements put a stress on Individualism. However, one difference between the two movements was that the Italian renaissance was wholly secular in nature, whereas the northern European renaissance was much more faith based.
