Summary: Analyzes Adolf Hitler's rise to power in post World War I Germany. Describes specifically how Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933. Explores what role economics played in his success.

The main reason Hitler came to power was because of the mass support for the Nazi party. However, he also needed the support of the elite to become chancellor.

For an extreme party like the Nazis to gain mass support there has to be some sort of problems within the country. This is very true in Germany as the Weimar regime had several weaknesses. Many historians say it was doomed from the start because the system was associated with the treaty of Versailles. Germans resented the treaty as they thought it was unfair and it was also a constant reminder that they had lost the war. Another fatal flaw in the Weimar system was the fact that the Elite were hostile towards the system. They originally went along with the idea so that they would not be blamed for the First World War.
