Year-Round Schooling

Summary:   Discusses the growing trend of year-round schooling. Describes the importance of summer for students and teachers.

Summer is the best time of year. It is a time when you get to stay out late and sleep in, also it is a time to relax from all your hard work for your past school year. Year round school would take that away from us. Many people believe school should not be all year round for many reasons. In the summer time people go away, stress builds up and it would be hot to learn in and for teachers to teach in for schools that do not have air conditioning. Summer is fine the way it is and students and teachers do not want the summer taken away from them.

In the summer time many people go away to visit family, go site seeing or just go some place to relax, but this would not be available with year round schooling. If they took away the two months of summer, kids might be missing school to go on vacations with their families. Even if we did get a week or two in the summer it still would not be a lot of time to go visit family in different countries or just go site seeing around the world.

Also people go up to cottages for the whole summer or for longer then two weeks and their cottages would go to waste with no one being there. So all year round schooling would not be good for people that travel during the summer time.

Throughout the school year students' and teachers' stress begins to build up. Students and teachers need longer then just one or two weeks during the summer to relax and relieve all the stress that they might have. When stress builds up, you need to take time to relax for a while, and a week or two during the summer would not be enough time to do that. When students have been off for a couple of weeks it is always hard to go back because you know your going to have to work and this would make some students depressed. So we need the two months during the summer time to relieve the stress that might build up during the summer.

In the summer time it is very hot most days and schools without air conditioning would be very hard to learn in and for teachers to teach. When the summer comes around students begin to give up on their school work because it is so nice outside that they want to be out there instead of in school or doing work. If school was during the summer time a lot of students would not be completing their work. When it is hot in the school most students find it hard to learn and concentrate. If your school did not have air conditioning it would be very hard to learn during the summer time.

Summer time is one of the best times of the year for kids. If school was all year round people would be missing school to go on vacations, stress begins to builds up and it is too hot during the summer. There is nothing wrong with the way our school year is now, and most people like having the two months off in the summer. You can stay up late, sleep in till whatever time you want and just relax from all the hard work that you have done during the school year. Would you like to be the one to take that away from us?
