A Comparison between "Bicentennial Man" and "Frankenstein"

Summary: Examines the ways in which "Bicentennial Man", starring Robin Williams, is similar and different from Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein".
"Bicentennial Man" takes place in the year 2005 and spans a period of 200 years during which the goal of a single individual's quest is to learn all he might about the intricacies of humanity, life and love. It tells the story of Andrew Martin, an android who is purchased by the wealthy Martin family as a household robot programmed to perform menial tasks. As Andrew begins to display a remarkable range of human emotions, interests, and creative thought the Martin family soon discovers they don't have an ordinary robot. Andrew develops an identity and embarks on a journey of total transformation, both physically and emotionally. The movie looks at the relationships he develops with humans and his quest to become acknowledged as human. He undergoes numerous operations to become physically human. On his death bed he finally gets his wish and is proclaimed to be the oldest living human...
