There might be some reasons that Saturday detentions are a good idea, but in my opinion these detentions are definitely a bad one. Personally I think that students as well as teachers have their own plans and commitments during the weekend, which are a lot more important than Saturday detentions.
I believe that the main reason detentions shouldn't be held on Saturdays is because of religious family events, which are usually held on a Saturday afternoon. Some families at the school might be very religious and attend church on a regular basis. Church is a very important aspect of many people's lives. It might be a part of who they are as people and missing out on the opportunity to go there will probably upset many families.
