Narrative Advertisements

Summary:   Examines a Jeep commercial and how successful the narrative advertisement is at selling its product to the target audience.


Narrative adverts are a popular way of selling a product. The advert that I have chosen to analyse is a semi - narrative advertisement that is attempting to sell a Jeep.

It begins with a scene in a lawyer's office where an elderly gentleman is reading a will to three people in their late thirties. The will states that the eldest son will receive a French castle, the daughter will get an American penthouse and the youngest son is given a large area of swampland. This young man then jumps up and celebrates with his girlfriend. Immediately after he has started to celebrate, the advert cuts to a shot of a jeep roaming through the swampland with fast and exciting music playing in the background.
