The Roman city of Pompeii, with its treasures of the past, was buried in AD 79 during the volcanic eruption of Mt Vesuvius. Through various evidence and methods, history, archaeology and science had provided us with a sound knowledge of everyday Roman life and how the city met its end.
Systematic archaeological excavations in Pompeii revealed careful city planning, victims of the disaster, everyday life and numerous frescoes and mosaics. As buildings were gradually uncovered under careful excavations it is seen that life in Pompeii, especially for those of a higher social status, revolved around the forum which is surrounded by several temples dedicated to different Roman gods.
