Economic Growth

The Economy of The Democratic Republic of Congo (DROC) has drastically declined since the 1980's. A war, which began in 1998, has dramatically reduced national output and government revenue, while increasing foreign debt. Foreign companies have left the nation due to uncertainty about the outcome of war and its implications, lack of infrastructure, and difficult operating conditions.

War has caused such things as raging inflation and corruption. Government economic policy and financial operations have become less open, meaning nobody knows what they are doing.

From 1990-2000 the annual growth rate of DROC has been -5.1% from 1980-1990 there had been a steady annual growth rate of 1.6%. All sectors went steeply downhill during the 1990-2000 period besides agriculture, which had an annual growth rate of 2.9%, and increase of 0.4% from the previous ten years.
