Summary:   In the movie White Oleander, miscommunication is a big problem, characters in this essay are able to find themselves and who they are.


This movie is a story about a mother and daughter relationship. A daughter who spent her pre adolescent years lost in the control and manipulation of her mother. It is about a daughter's journey to adult hood. We get to watch as this young girl Astrid flashes back on her life from watching her mother be arrested and jailed for murder, to finding love and the strength to be able to stand independent with confidence and a true sense of herself. We watch her go though four completely different life styles and each brought her pain and more strength and self-awareness she gets to discover who she really is and can be separating herself from her mothers influence. She's able to build on her self- concept.
