The most important factor for a good education is having excellent teachers in the classroom. Some may argue that the curriculum or the environment is the essential component, yet without an able teacher the best materials or the most comfortable classrooms become useless. It is therefore imperative that steps be taken to ensure that the most capable instructors are used. One method of ensuring the quality of the instructors is to test them for competency. Although to be an excellent educator requires many skills, the competency test should focus primarily on the teacher's ability to clearly communicate ideas and concepts, to maintain a supportive learning environment, and to understand the psychological aspects of learning.
